PULU'S INDIGO DREAM
ARTISTS' BOOK AND ANIMATIONS

Collaboration with Bangkok designer Oak Suwanphanich. Through illustrating the process of making natural indigo dye, we designed a narrative that encourages us to consider our connection to nature.

In February 2025 I spent three weeks in Thailand exploring, noticing, drawing. With Oak, I travelled north from Bangkok to Phrae Province, and we explored Natong, a tiny mountain village where indigo plants are grown.

Back in Scotland, I designed a series of illustrations inspired by the walk upstream from Natong, much of which was only possible by wading through the river. The narrator, Pulu the turtle, is a big-headed turtle, an endangered species living in the forests. Like indigo plants, these turtles need to live by clean water sources.

The project will be displayed at the Bangkok Arts and Culture Centre (BACC) from October 7th – 12th 2025. It was funded by the British Council's Connections through Culture programme which supports collaborations between Thai and UK artists.
